Improving important links

The new shared path beside Showground Road in Castle Hill is now complete with the opening of the new pedestrian bridge over Cattai Creek.

The new path provides a safe and convenient off-road link for pedestrians and cyclists between the new Showground Station Precinct and Windsor Road.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said Council is continually improving links in The Shire, to make it easier and safer for residents to walk and ride their bikes.

“The new project forms part of a strategic link and provides a new connection to the recently opened Baulkham Hills cycleway and to better connect people to the new Showground Station,” Mayor Byrne said.

“With a number of people going to use this important route on a daily basis, the new bridge and pathway will provide significant safety benefits for residents and visitors.

“And it will attract many more people to this popular sporting and entertainment venue.”

The project was jointly funded by Council and the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS), and designed and constructed by Fleetwood Urban Pty Ltd.

Concrete works were completed by Awada Civil Pty Ltd.

The bridge makes extensive use of fibre reinforced polymer materials for the decking and substructure.

This high-tech composite material is cost effective, lightweight and provides durability and strength.
