History Week Event honours former Emeritus Mayor, Dr Rex Stubbs

Former Emeritus Mayor, Rex Stubbs, will be remembered at the second Dr Rex Stubbs OAM Commemorative History Symposium to be held on Saturday, 9 September.at the Deerubbin Centre, 300 George Street, Windsor.

The free, fully catered event recognises Dr Stubbs’ commitment to the Hawkesbury community, and aims to promote interest in the unique history of the Hawkesbury. Aimed primarily at Hawkesbury historical societies and heritage related groups, as well as those in the wider region, interested residents are also welcome to attend – RSVP is essential to Prue Charlton 4560 4434 or pcharlton@ hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au.

Dr Stubbs was a highly active member of Hawkesbury City Council, giving 26 years of service as a Councillor, including ten terms as Mayor. He was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 2001 for service to local government and to the Hawkesbury community. Dr Stubbs had an abiding interest in art, history and culture. He also championed the development of Hawkesbury Regional Museum and Hawkesbury Regional Gallery, and he was a member and President of Hawkesbury Historical Society for nearly 30 years.
