A Hazard Reduction burn is ongoing at Woods Creek, Grose Wold, as crews from NSW Rural Fire Service – Hawkesbury and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service take advantage of favourable weather conditions expected today until the end of the week.

The assisted burn today is expected to cover approximately 276.91 hectares. Having started on Tuesday morning, it is likely to burn through the day and overnight. Smoke may stay in the area until the following day.

“Weather conditions are expected to ease significantly [today] through to the end of the week, providing appropriate conditions to safely implement this important burn ahead of the fire season,” the RFS Hawkesbury said.

As of 2:02 PM, the reduction burn is “burning under optimum weather conditions.”

Crews will stay overnight patrolling and over the coming days until the fire is fully extinguished.

The reduction burn is one of many being done by the RFS across the state as spring enters. Last week, the RFS commenced three burns at Nepean Park West (Yarramundi), Bravo Hazard (Blaxlands Ridge), and Roberts Creek (Blaxlands Ridge).

As the weather starts to shift, the RFS will be holding its annual ‘Get Ready Weekend’ hosting a wide range of events, programs, and gatherings to prepare and be aware of the upcoming bushfire season. Residents will gain insights into creating their own Bush Fire Survival Plan.

‘Get Ready Weekend’ events will commence at over 500 locations in the state from 21 to 22 September.
