The NSW Rural Fire Service will conduct a Hazard Reduction Burn in Cockatoo Place, Glenorie, this evening, Thursday, 31st of October 2024.

The Glenorie Rural Fire Brigade mentioned that the approximate area of the Hazard Reduction Burn is 2.34 hectares and is expected to begin around 5:00 PM on Thursday evening.

Crews will remain on site late into the night, followed by patrols the following day. Smoke may be visible from Old Northern Road and the Township of Glenorie.

The RFS shares what residents near the burn are advised to do during a Hazard Reduction Burn:

  • Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from entering homes
  • Keep outdoor furniture under cover to prevent ember burns
  • Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage
  • Remove washing from clotheslines
  • Ensure pets have a protected area
  • Vehicles must slow down, keep windows up, turn headlights on
  • Sightseers must keep away from burns for their own safety
  • If you have asthma or a lung condition, reduce outdoor activities if smoke levels are high, and if shortness of breath or coughing develops, take your reliever medicine or seek medical advice
