Bromeliad Society
Nina Woodcock will be the guest speaker at the next Bromeliad Society meeting*. She is a passionate gardener who has discovered the joy of cultivating bromeliads from seed.
Nina has been growing bromeliads since 2020 and commenced crosspollination of bromeliads seeds in 2021 around the time she joined the Bromeliad Society of Australia.
She will cover the many techniques about growing Bromeliads from seed and will bring lots of examples of her germination methods and some mature plants that she has grown from seed, including billbergia, aechmea, puya, dickya, neoregelia, alcantarea, canistrum, quesnelia, vriesea, hyleaciym and Tillandsia.
Nina became interested in growing bromeliads after finding some at a local market where Steve and Edwina Wain (Illawarra Bromeliad Society) had a stall. She went back to buy more and then started looking online for places to buy them. That’s when she discovered several bromeliad groups on Facebook with many wonderful growers selling plants from all along the east coast of Australia.
There will be the usual ‘Show, Tell and Ask’ session where members and guests can submit plants for discussion and the very popular plant raffle.
*The meeting of the Bromeliad Society of Australia will be held at the Federation Pavilion, Castle Hill Showground, Castle Hill on Saturday, 9th of November with sales to the public from 10am and the meeting commencing at 12 noon.
