Hawkesbury SES Training more members to help rescue large animals
On Saturday, 12th November NSW Hawkesbury SES Unit hosted a Large Animal Rescue Course for sixteen members from the Hawkesbury and The Hills SES Units.
As we saw last Thursday, our four legged friends do get in strife, and it is so good to train up more rescue operators keen to help get horses and cattle out of sticky situations or needing relocating from floodwater.
Our rescue operators learnt all about the risks of working in close proximity to trapped horses and cattle, the importance of getting the owner to call their vet and a range of useful techniques to rescue animals from different situations.
The group then headed out to Agnes Banks for a practical session on restraint and relocation on two lovely horses, Dougy and Bill .
Please remember, if your horse is trapped:
1. Stay calm
2. Call your vet
3. Call 000
“Our dedicated volunteers are here to help you and your four legged companions ”
