According to the RFS, the Fire Danger Rating for the Greater Sydney Region is HIGH, indicating an elevated risk of fire today, 7 October.
Locals are advised by the NSW Rural Fire Service to take caution as there is heightened fire risk. Fire permits also remain suspended for another 24 hours.
As of this writing, no Total Fire Bans are in place across the state.
During a high rating, locals can follow these steps:
- There’s a heightened risk. Be alert for fires in your area.
- Decide what you will do if a fire starts.
- If a fire starts, your life and property may be at risk. The safest option is to avoid bushfire risk areas.

The RFS reminds residents that failure to follow permit conditions or lighting a fire without a permit during the fire danger period can incur significant penalties.
The Bureau of Meteorology reports that while Monday’s weather is mostly sunny, there will be a slight wind later in the day.
“Winds north to northwesterly and light tending west to northwesterly 15 to 25 km/h in the middle of the day then becoming light in the evening,” the BOM.
