In preparation for Christmas gifting, the Ferry Artists at Wiseman’s invite visitors to their opening evening of their newest exhibition ‘Ferry Artists Presents’.

The Ferry Artists are a not-for-profit group of local artisans who were formed out of the Inaugural Wisemans Ferry Art Show by Heather Winch in 2000. Heather alongside like-minded artists created a community organisation and community-run art gallery, where visitors can attend and purchase local art.

Carol Gill, the current President of the Ferry Artist Gallery, invites both existing members and the public to witness their newest exhibition, ‘Ferry Artists Presents’. The opening will run on the 9th of November 2024 from 3pm – 5pm and will feature 20cm x 20cm paintings starting at an affordable price of $80, as well as other art pieces:

“Our exhibition is perfect for new curators who are starting out and are looking for unique pieces”, she said.

As President since 2023, Carol’s preferred artistic medium is mixed media collage and landscape paintings. She encourages the public to visit their gallery in Wisemans Ferry and browse their array of ceramics, jewellery, textiles and artwork for sale:

“Our gallery acts as the cultural soul for our forgotten valley. Visiting our shop supports local artists and provides residents with rich culture. It’s important for our community to have an artistic focus and art that enriches life and mental wellbeing”.

Once a month, the group meets for their ‘River Sketchers’, which is a free event open to the public where participants can spend the day making artwork against the beautiful backdrop of the Hawkesbury River. Registrations are essential and you can contact them via their Facebook Page: ‘The Ferry Artists Gallery’ or website.

For those interested in membership, both exhibiting and social members can express their interest by emailing ferryartistsgallery@gmail. com and are asked to submit their art as part of the application. The Ferry Artists are also on display at the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery; ‘Hawkesbury Now’ exhibition which will run through until December.

However, Carol wants to express how the gallery and their open nights are, “never invitation only; it’s always open to the community”.

You can peruse their lovely art pieces at the Ferry Artists Art Gallery, at 2 Old Northern Road, Wisemans Ferry, NSW. They are open seven days a week, from 10am to 4pm.
