Crime Thriller in The Hills

If you love good theatre and a good murder mystery the Castle Hill Players’ next production, Earth and Sky should not to be missed.

The award-winning noir mystery play by Douglas Post is being directed by the talented Faith Jessel and opens at the Pavilion Theatre at Castle Hill Showground on Friday, May 13th.

Earth and Sky is for fans of the classic, hardboiled crime prose and is about a would-be poet and part-time librarian named Sara McKeon whose lover is murdered.

From the opening scenes, the play’s heroine, Sara McKeon, (played by Kate Jirelle) is thrust into a confusing world of contradictions and danger.

Though hampered by her own innocence, Sara embarks on her quest fiercely, doggedly, through the urban labyrinth of Chicago’s underworld.

There are many unsettling encounters ahead for Sara: with Lead Detective H.E. Weber (Ben Freeman), henchmen Julius Gatz and Carl Eisensentaft (Simon Walker) and femme fatale Maria Defaria (Lara Angseesing).

The cast is packed with local actors including Brett Watkins, Christine Wilson, Mitch Doran and Blake Michael Paish.

There are red herrings, smoking guns and tension at every turn. In true film noir style, Earth and Sky is infused with suspense, thrills and startling wit.

Faith Jessel has peppered the script with music and movements reminiscent of the golden age of Hollywood.

It is a story that will keep you guessing, speculating and intrigued until the last moments of the closing scene.
