Huge Boost For Rugby as Box Hill Gets New Junior Club

Sydney’s newest rugby club, the Box Hill Junior Rugby Club aka The Boxers, has kicked off, as a part of the Eastwood Rugby Juniors district.

Eastwood, one of the premium rugby institutions in NSW, are relocating to The Hills with General Manager Robert Frost predicting The Boxers will quickly become an integral part of the rugby community.

NSW Rugby is a strong supporter of BHJRC, which has rugby diehard Darren Kable as its founder president and Matt Hochstetter as vice-president.

Mark Green, General Manager, Community & Participation at NSW Rugby, said it is great to see a new club in North West Sydney, “where rugby union is traditionally strong and growing.” “As part of the Eastwood district juniors, I look forward to seeing the Boxers win their first game,” he said.

“I’m really excited by the opportunity to kick off Sydney’s newest rugby club,” Kable said. “Having a junior rugby club in Box Hill is vitally important to the local community. It offers young boys and girls an environment to learn essential life skills including teamwork, resilience, discipline, fitness, strength & respect.”

The box hill junior rugby club committee is ready for their first season.

Kable started playing rugby 40 years ago with Beecroft Pennant Hills (now the Northern Barbarians). His sons, Samuel, 16, and Lachlan, 14, represent Hills Rugby Club, Dural Rugby Club and Oakhill College.

“I firmly believe in the adage it takes a village to raise children,” Kable said. “I am immensely grateful to the ‘Rugby Village’ for the friendships, role models, mentors, and coaches who have contributed to shaping my boys into the outstanding young men they are today.

“It is this ethos that drives my aspiration for the Box Hill JRC to cultivate a supportive community where all young individuals can thrive, irrespective of their skill level.”

He said the club was ratified with Sydney Junior Rugby Union a few years without any activity until now.

“I have a wonderful group of passionate people with decades of experience running kids sports helping to build this club,” Kable said. “We have a lot of support from Dural Rugby Club & Eastwood Rugby to ensure this club is successful.”

Eastwood GM Frost said this is a wonderful opportunity to work with the new communities. “Our re-location to Castle Hill is part of a long term strategy to focus on the new and emerging areas of Sydney and give all the new families an opportunity to try rugby,” Frost said.
