On the evening of 25 September, a male suspect, who happens to have a green thumb, took on a daring heist to steal a rare Blood Dragon Tree from a front yard on Nelson Road, Box Hill.

At about 9:21 PM, the “audacious arborist” was seen in a CCTV footage digging and rocking the tree back and forth before loading up his harvest on his getaway bicycle. Witnesses said he was dressed in a fluorescent yellow tradesman shirt as he pedalled away, leaving a trail of dirt.

Senior Constable Toni P, the officer in charge of the case, commented, “It’s not every day you see a tree being stolen, especially not by someone on a bicycle. We’re dealing with a very eco-friendly thief here.”

Almost a week later, on 1 October, the stolen Blood Dragon Tree was found at a nearby residence.

At 1:00 PM, officers from The Hills Police Area Command triumphantly returned the tree to its original spot on Nelson Road. Senior Constable Lily K, who led the investigation, was on hand to oversee the replanting.

“It’s not every day you get to solve a case and do a bit of gardening at the same time,” remarked Senior Constable K with a smile. “We’re just glad to have the tree back where it belongs.”

The male suspect will be issued with a Court Attendance notice for stealing.

Should any criminal activities, whether botanical in nature, sprout again, the authorities urge the community to contact them as soon as possible.
