As the world prepares for the funeral this evening of Queens Elizabeth II, Australian coins will continue to carry her image for many years to come.

Here’s what will happen:
Existing Australian legal tender coins bearing the Queen’s effigy will remain in circulation and remain legal tender

The Royal Australian Mint temporarily paused the minting of coins on 9 September as a mark of respect on the news of the Queen’s passing and re-commenced on the morning of the 12 September

Once coins with the new effigy are determined and released, they will circulate alongside the current ones.

It could take up to a year before we see coins with King Charles III in them.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][us_image image=”69651″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
