Charges laid following inquiries into armed robbery of Hawkesbury pub Friday, 17 December 2021 10:37:33 AM

Robbery and Serious Crime Squad detectives have charged a man over the alleged robbery of a hotel in Sydney’s north-west earlier this year.

Just before 10.30am on Monday 5 April 2021, three men – one armed with a shortened rifle, the other two with a screwdriver and knife – attended a licensed premise on Hawkesbury Valley Way at Clarendon, before allegedly threatening two male employees in the car park.

A scuffle ensued, before both employees were allegedly assaulted, sustaining injuries to their face and body.

Police were told the employees were then forced at gunpoint into the hotel, while a female employee was directed to empty the safe.

The group stole cash and keys to a Holden Commodore – owned by one of the employees.

The trio fled the location in a previously stolen Jeep Cherokee, after one of the men failed to operate security features fitted in the Holden Commodore.

Initial inquiries were conducted by officers attached to Hawkesbury Police Area Command, who recovered the partially burnt-out stolen Jeep on the M7 at Woodstock about 7pm that evening.

The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

The matter was subsequently referred to officers from State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, who established Strike Force McGee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a property at Macquarie Fields just before 3pm yesterday (Thursday 16 December 2021).

During a subsequent search, police seized steroids, electronic devices, and documentation.

A second search warrant was executed at a home at Leumeah, where officers arrested a 33-year-old man.

He was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with in company rob while armed with dangerous weapon, acquire firearm – subject to prohibition order, destroy property in company use fire (more than $5,000), and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.

The man was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Friday 17 December 2021).
