Hills-based author Nicola Moriarty has published seven novels and sold over a quarter of a million copies worldwide.

Alive 90.5 FM Pick n Mix hosts Anne and Julie were delighted to welcome Nicola to their Tuesday afternoon show recently.

Nicola shared her experience of writing her latest novel, Every Last Suspect. Her inspiration for the book came from a small piece she wrote as a university student about the final thoughts of a dying woman.

Re-reading it several years later, it sparked an idea for a murder-mystery novel about Harriet, a woman preparing to celebrate her 40th birthday who finds herself lying in a pool of her own blood.

Realising she’s about to die, Harriet is determined to figure out who is responsible. Certainly an enticing plot!

Nicola also talked about how the words flow easily when the brain is in the right frame of mind but sometimes, it can be a struggle. Her advice is to keep on writing, developing a different character or a different part of the story or even writing about something else completely. Eventually, it all comes together and is well worth the effort when the novel is on the book shop shelves!

Not one to let the grass grow under her feet, Nicola is already working on her next novel and it promises to be a cracker – the complexities (aka politics) of running a local soccer club.
