Greenway Park: A Win for Sports & Accessibility Now Complete
The Greenway Park Sports Precinct in Cherrybrook officially opened its final stage on 14 June, featuring new, accessible, female-friendly improvements. Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell and MP James Wallace cut the ribbon, with local sports clubs in attendance.
Delivered by Hornsby Shire Council with support from the NSW Government through the Office of Sport, the latest upgrades will significantly enhance open space and recreational facilities for local sporting clubs, including AFL, athletics, baseball, cricket, netball and Rugby League.
The new features include changerooms, first aid and referee rooms, a canteen, club storage, tiered spectator seating, a multi-functional area, upgraded power and water services, and new male, female and accessible public toilets.
“It was an honour to cut this ribbon today and formally recognise the completion of the final stages of this treasured community asset in Cherrybrook. The Greenway Park Sports Precinct is one of Hornsby Shire’s busiest and most beloved sporting precincts. Between the six sporting groups that call it home, there are up to 8,000 people directly touched by the delivery of this project,” said Hornsby Shire Mayor Warren Waddell.
“The improvements, including female friendly change rooms and enhanced accessibility, are simply essential to ensuring that everyone can feel welcome playing sport in the Shire, whether for fun or at an elite level.”
“I’d like to thank the NSW Government for its contribution to this final stage of the project through the Office of Sport, bolstered by Council funding through the Special Rate Variation.” continued Mayor Waddell.
“This final stage of the Greenway Park project follows a series of major upgrades in 2021. Funded by the Federal Government through Julian Leeser, Member for Berowra, the significant first stage featured a new community building overlooking Oval No 1 with a kitchen, social room, meeting rooms and toilets.
“Continued support from all levels of government in delivering infrastructure to meet the future needs of our growing community is crucial, and we thank everyone involved for helping to make these important new facilities possible.”
