MEDITATION OF LOVE

Do you have a warm cup of something to lovingly hold and sip as you read this? If not, go make yourself something you’ll enjoy, then come and sit with me. Take a sip while it’s warm, because you’re about to forget all about that warm cup of tea as we practice the meditation of love.

Now, put that cup down somewhere you won’t knock it over. Light yourself a candle, a red one if you have one, otherwise, any candle you have is fine. Place it safely now. Stare into the flame and breathe in the sacred light of the fire. Look at this flame, how it burns, how it settles, how it shapes itself. Gaze into it, it’s power, it’s beauty, it’s consciousness. Feel a connection with this tiny flame to your own inner fire. If you can’t feel that, intend it, the intention is enough. Please make sure your candle is placed safely.

Can you see outside? Look up at the stars, or the clouds in the sky if it’s daytime. It’s beautiful, this earth, these simple pleasures. A flame, a star. A star! What a brilliant light that it is. Look at it’s brilliance, really look, with your heart, feel it’s brilliance.  Now, close your eyes and feel your own brilliance.

We are made of stars and of earth. Feel yourself as the same brilliance as the stars, as consciousness, as love.

Let go of the striving for a certain kind of love you want in your life, at least for now. Let go of all the disappointments in love or feelings of no love. No love? There is love, there is always love. You are love. Close your eyes and bring your attention into your heart space right in the middle of your chest. Breathe from your heart space, feel yourself radiate love from inside your heart, to all the cells of your body. Breathe. Let go of the critic, simply feel the love and send it through your breath to your whole body. Fill your entire body, all of it, with love. Enjoy the purity of sattva, the love held within a silent space.

Can you see the moon? It’s brilliant and changing, and so are you. Nature provides cascades of love every day with the sunrise and sunset and everything in between, through the play of light, the ease of growth, nothing forced, just there, pure love. Let go of all your distractions, lists and monkey mind stuff and go into your heart space. See a lotus flower inside your heart and on the lotus sits a beautiful, brilliant, loving being. That being is you, yes you, smiling back at yourself, with pure love.

Send this love out into the room, fill the room with love. The more the room fills up with love from inside of you, the more abundance of love you have to give and receive. Let love radiate further out now, into your whole house and to any creature that happens to be in that space – a moth, a mozzie, other people, your pets. Let them all breathe in the love from your heart that is filling the space. Start to smile. Keep radiating this love out and watch the being, yourself, sitting on the lotus flower beaming with love, smiling back at you.

Send love further out. The more you send, the more there is inside your heart. Radiate it into the environment, to all the flowers around your home, to the plants and trees and all the little creatures and birds in your garden. Radiate love up to the sky, to the moon and back again, then all the way down to the earth’s core, filling the earth with love, then back into your heart. Radiate it out into your community, and as far into the world as you can.  Send love into the whole world, into the hearts of all beings everywhere, into the whole universe, the stratosphere, then back into your heart space. Sending it back doesn’t withdraw it. Love is sent out, expands there and more of the same love comes back to you. Sit within this love, this pure consciousness of love for as long as you can.

Now, do you feel loved? Being love and an expression of pure love will help bring the quality of love you want from your relationship or from a new one to you. A love meditation will surround you and soak you in love, will help heal your heart and help you feel more love for those in your life or those destined to come in. If you can’t feel this yet, with an open heart, read from the top and do it again with an intention of joy and of love. Lovingly record the words and close your eyes and hear your own voice guiding you, ever so gently, ever so lovingly, guiding yourself inwards to the place of pure love.

Let this practice change your outlook, your relationships with yourself and others, with the world, the cosmos and all beings everywhere.

Make love your practice, let love begin inside your heart, let love begin with you.
