We’re All Going On a Summer Holiday

Hawkesbury Regional Gallery and Nepean Arts and Design Centre, TAFE NSW have collaborated to present a free exhibition titled ‘We’re all going on a summer holiday!’ – a timely reflection of what a summer holiday is all about.

11 artists have created works in a range of media ranging from photography to ceramics, painting, installation and drawing. Ilona Bruckard, Annette Bukovinsky, Sarah Frost, Lynn Godfree, Chris Hunter, Freya Jobbins, Elisha Schnell, Mike Wall, Bianca Walsh, Teresina White, Annette Wilcox.

This year the Summer Art Lab has an underwater theme and artists Nicole Ashton and Sarah Mitchell, have been working with our education and public programs team to create the drop-in activity space for children, and the young at heart!

The artists are final year diploma and who were asked to respond to the idea of a summer holiday.

What’s the first memory that springs to mind when you reminisce about your holidays? Long car journeys, bunk beds, the McDonalds pit stop, staying up late? Big Bananas and Pineapples? Salty hair and skin and Sunburn? Most of us will have a least one of these things cemented in our Australian holiday memories. Or is it something darker and more personal?

Cath Barcan, Head Teacher Visual Arts says: “This has been a wonderful and tangible professional opportunity to work with the team at the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery. We are very lucky to have such a strong arts community in the region”.

We all need a collective summer holiday! Come and be part of ours.
