Water Lane Reserve to Become New Sports Complex
Box Hill is set to receive a major boost in recreational infrastructure, with The Hills Shire Council awarding the tender for the construction of a new sports complex at Water Lane Reserve.
The project will deliver a modern sporting and community precinct featuring:
- Two AFL-standard fields
- Athletics facilities including a running track
- A shaded playground
- Half basketball court
- 200 parking spaces
- Amenities building with accessible toilets, change rooms, referees’ room, storage, and canteen
The $19.6 million development is being delivered in partnership with the NSW Government through the Accelerated Infrastructure Fund (AIF), as part of Council’s strategy to support population growth in Box Hill with essential services and infrastructure.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne, said the complex will enhance both formal sporting opportunities and community access to open space.
“This facility will support organised sports such as AFL in winter and athletics in summer, while also providing a space where residents can gather, exercise and play,” Mayor Byrne said.
The sports complex is one of six planned developments in Box Hill and follows the opening of Brindle Parkway Sports Complex in 2024.
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully welcomed the development, highlighting its contribution to community wellbeing and active lifestyles.
“This project will deliver quality green open space where people can come together to relax and play,” he said. “It’s important we continue to invest in grassroots sports infrastructure to support growing communities like Box Hill.”
Construction is expected to begin later this year.
