A dedicated day to honour the 15,000 widows across NSW, who historically have faced enormous grief.

The widows represent the majority of conflicts of WW2, Vietnam, Korean, East Timor, Afghanistan, Pakistan and other battles.

It was on the 4th June 1946, that the War Widows Craft Guild was founded by Jessie Vasey OBE CBE and its aim was to provide a place for members to learn weaving, sock knitting and craft.

The goods were then sold and the funds would then supplement the widows’ below basic wage pensions.

Just being able to bond with widows who share the common loss of loved ones who fought and died for our freedom, must have been extremely therapeutic.

So today, take time to honour our war widows and give thanks for the tenacity, courage and strength they have shown over many years.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
