Unsung heroes recognised at Locals for Locals Awards

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Yvonne Keane recognised unsung heroes at the Orange Blossom Festival Locals for Locals Awards on Friday, August 25.

“The Locals for Locals Awards is an invitation to celebrate our local heroes – those extraordinary people who together make possible our large and successful Hills Shire community,” Mayor Keane said.

“It enables us to celebrate some of our finest contributors to the peace, prosperity and the happiness of our region.

“On behalf of The Hills Shire Council, I congratulate each of the nominees and winners.

“Your work helps make us be mindful of what a great region we live in, and of the generous spirit amongst our people. But it also helps remind us of the work that we all need to do – to ensure that those who need assistance are well and truly supported throughout their hardships,” Mayor Keane added.

On the night, Mayor Keane recognised groups, community organisations and individuals working hard to make a difference in the region, including the following award winners:

Winner: Event Cinemas Castle Hill

·Community Contribution Award for Arts and Culture
Commendation: Circular Keys Chorus
Winner: Macquarie Hills Potters

·Community Service Award for Community Contribution
Commendation: Dennis Coker
Winner: Barbara Stewart
Winner: RDA (NSW) Tall Timbers Centre
Winner: Kellyville Lions Club 

·Education Award for Community Contribution.
Winner: The Hills Chinese School

·Community Contribution – Sports & Recreation Award.
Commendation: Paul Griffin
Winner: Baulkham Hills Sports Club

The Locals for Locals Awards ceremony is one of a number of great community events running as part of Council’s OBF.
