Just after 5:00 AM on Thursday, January 25, 2024, Oakville Brigade responded to a serious train collides at the Level Crossing Road level crossing in Vineyard. Upon arrival, crews found a passenger train had collided with a large trailer that had become stuck on the tracks.
Oakville Pumper firefighters secured the scene and established safety perimeters until the arrival of additional resources from Sydney Trains and Rail Fire and Emergency. Working together, they gained access to the train and assisted with the safe evacuation of all passengers to waiting ambulances.
Thankfully, despite the dramatic scene, no injuries were reported. NSW Ambulance personnel conducted thorough checks on all passengers as a precaution.
As a result of the collision, the Level Crossing Road and surrounding roads are currently closed. Motorists are advised to avoid the area while authorities investigate the incident and clear the scene.
Police are now leading inquiries to determine how the trailer came to be on the tracks, and they are appealing for any witnesses or individuals with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
