A Total Fire Ban is in place today for Greater Sydney and other regions across the state today, Friday, 8 November 2024, the NSW Rural Fire Service announced.
The Fire Danger Rating for Friday is HIGH, indicating hot, dry, and windy conditions. Thereby, there is an increased risk of fires spreading rapidly and becoming dangerous.
Fire Permits are, therefore, suspended until further notice. No fires may be lit in the open and any activity that may start a fire is extremely prohibited.
The RFS urges the Hills and Hawkesbury communities to stay alert for any signs of fire in their area.
“Ensure your bushfire survival plan is up to date and be ready to act quickly if needed,” the RFS reminded.
During a High Fire Danger Rating, the RFS shares what to do during such conditions:
HIGH FIRE DANGER – Be Ready To Act
- Be Ready: Have a bushfire plan
- Stay Informed: Check the Hazards Near Me app, RFS website, and local radio for updates.
- Follow Restrictions: No open fires; avoid using spark-causing equipment.
- Act Early: If in doubt, leave early, don’t wait.
- Prepare Property: Clear gutters and remove flammable debris.
