NSW Rural Fire Service announced that a Total Fire Ban is in place today, Sunday, the 16th of March 2025.
A Total Fire Ban means no fires out in the open, helping to limit the potential for fires to develop. During a TOBAN, residents cannot light, maintain, or use a fire in the open or carry out any activity in the open that causes or is likely to cause a fire.
General-purpose hot works (such as welding, grinding or gas cutting or any activity that produces a spark or flame) are not to be done in the open.
Fire Permits are, therefore, suspended until further notice.
The Fire Danger Rating for Sunday is EXTREME, indicating dangerous fire conditions. Residents are advised to check their bush fire plan and to ensure their properties are fire-ready.
The RFS urges the Hills and Hawkesbury communities to stay alert for any signs of fire in their area.
“Ensure your bushfire survival plan is up to date and be ready to act quickly if needed,” the RFS reminded.
