Synthetic fields a game-changer for The Hills

Work is underway on the first-ever synthetic fields in The Hills.

The new synthetic fields, located at Bernie Mullane Reserve, will allow for greater training opportunities and fewer ground closures.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Yvonne Keane said the revolutionary playing fields will increase the opportunities for locals to play sport year-round.

“We understand there is a real shortage of sporting fields in The Hills and Council is working hard to fast-track new facilities including new playing fields at Arnold Avenue and in the Balmoral Road Release Area. In the meantime the new synthetic fields will provide more opportunities for play,” Mayor Keane said.

“In fact, the new synthetic fields allow for almost three times the play that even the most advanced natural grass fields can provide.

“This means we can use the artificial fields more, and reduce the impact on our grass fields, improving sporting facilities across our region.

“After three years of campaigning behind-the-scenes on this project, I’m looking forward to these fields being opened to the community very soon.”

The fields are currently being constructed as part of the Bernie Mullane Reserve Masterplan.
