Entries Now Open for Remagine Sustainability and Environmental Art Prize 2024

Hornsby Shire Council’s sustainability and environmental art prize Remagine is again open for entries with $11,000 in total prize money.

Hosted by Hornsby Shire Council in partnership with the Hornsby Art Society since 2009, the Remagine Art Prize challenges artists to create works in response to the waste and overconsumption crises. This year’s theme, Crossroads of Consumption, invites artists to explore the critical juncture of consumption overtaking Earth’s finite natural resources.

  • Winner: $5,000
  • Highly Commended: $2,500
  • Recycled/Reused Materials Award: $1,000
  • Local Artist Award: $1,000
  • Youth Award (18-25 years): $1,000
  • People’s Choice Award: $500

Hornsby Shire Council Mayor The Hon Philip Ruddock AO said this year’s theme was chosen in light of the urgency of this issue, renewing the art prize’s track record of poignant commentary on the waste and recycling crises—the effects of which are experienced most clearly at the level of Local Government.

“Overconsumption is not just a threat to the environment, but a clear threat to future generations as well”, said Mayor Ruddock. “Each year since its inception, we’ve seen Remagine reach larger and larger audiences, as the effects of the waste crisis and climate change become a reality for an ever-growing audience.

“Art has an ability to communicate these issues very well and we are always impressed with the way artists respond to the themes of our Remagine Art Prize. I’m sure that this year’s theme will prompt a wonderful response from our country’s brilliant creative community yet again.”

Entries to the Remagine Art Prize close on Thursday 21st March 2024 at 5pm and the winners will be announced at an award ceremony on Friday 10th May 2024.

The Remagine Art Prize exhibition will be held from Friday 10th May until Sunday 26th May 2024, at the Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre, Hornsby.
