Gifts in Wills Support Sick Children Long into the Future

“Having a child in hospital affects the whole family in a big way. When a baby, toddler, or teenager comes through our doors, they aren’t alone. The entire family comes with them, if not physically, then emotionally,” said Anne McFadden, Director of Planned Giving, Sydney Childrens Hospitals Foundation.

A hospital experience can stir up a lot of emotions, from fear to gratitude, for the family and their extended family and friends. Many people who have had a child in hospital, whether their own or a loved one’s, feel deeply impacted by the ordeal.

It often sparks a strong desire to give back in some way, whether through direct support to the family, volunteering, or even donating funds to help other children in the hospital.

“Providing support and care for the parents and families is so very important because when the family is supported, they are able to give their full attention to their child in hospital”, added Ms McFadden.

One Mum who is planning for future support of children and families is Lyn Cecil, a Mum of a baby boy who survived thanks to the wonderful care received at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick in the 1970s. ‘I’m a retired Mum.

I may not be in the position to make a significant donation today but through my Will I can in the future. Any gift I leave, I know, will go to help little babies like Mark to survive and thrive’.

Everyone has the power to make a meaningful difference to sick kids, ensuring that hospitals can continue to provide exceptional care and advances in paediatric healthcare outcomes for generations to come.

For those unable to support now, leaving a gift in your Will to Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) is a powerful way to make that difference. A gift in your Will, even as small as 5 percent, can create a future legacy of support for children and their families.

Writing your Will is easier than you may think. SCHF has partnered with Gathered Here, one of Australia’s most trusted online Will writing services and it is completely free. Simply follow the step-by-step process and in just 10 minutes, you can create your online Will.
