Street Racing-P-Platers Charged

Two teenagers have been charged after being caught allegedly street racing in Kellyville on Saturday.

About 10pm on Saturday (February 5th) officers attached to The Hills Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting stationary speed enforcement on Windsor Road, Kellyville, when they detected a Hyundai Tucson and a Volkswagen Golf heading west, allegedly travelling at 142km/h in a 60km/h zone.

Both vehicles were travelling side by side.

Police stopped the Hyundai on Wrights Road, before the Volkswagen left the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai – a 17-year-old male – was issued with a Court Attendance Notice for class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 45km/h – lidar, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and street racing, organise, promote race between vehicles.

His licence was immediately suspended.

A short time later, police attended a home on Shuttle Parade at Schofields, and spoke to an 18-year-old man, the alleged driver of the Volkswagen. He was issued with a Court Attendance Notice charged with class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 45km/h – lidar, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous and street racing, organise, promote race between vehicles.

His licence was immediately suspended, and his registration plates were seized for a period of three months.

Both drivers are due to appear before a children’s court and Parramatta Local Court on March 30th.
