Hills Teen Soars to New Heights on the Voice Australia
By Bev Jordans and Sophie Poredos
Singing on National television as a contestant on The Voice has been a huge stage for local singer Stephanie Milostic.
The 19-year-old, who has been singing since she was a toddler, turned three chairs in her blind audition on the show, winning a legion of new fans including three of the star Judges on The Voice, Adam Lambert, LeAnn Rimes and Guy Sebastain who loved her version of Dua Lipa’s New Rules.
A former William Clarke College student, Stephanie has been with the Hills-based Sister2Sister School of Singing since she was 6 years old and has performed at many major Shire events including Orange Blossom, Relay for Life and Australia Day.
Sisters Sharon & Christine Muscat at Sister 2 Sister School of Singing praises her musical talent: “We are so incredibly proud of Stephi! After seeing so many students come through our hallways over the last 20 years, it’s always special when they decide to move into the professional space. Beyond the TV show we are sure she has all the skills, talent and temperament, work ethos and perseverance required to move forward with a career in the arts, and we will always have her back no matter what”.
Stephanie’s music is inspired by her idol Aretha Franklin, as she characterizes her style of singing as ‘Funk soul meets pop and dance pop’:
“The main thing I want for my music to do is to make people happy and forget about their worries. Miss Aretha Franklin was the one person I could distract myself with and she was the reason I got into singing in the first place. I love combining the old and new through my music”.
Singing as a backing vocalist on two of Delta Goodrem’s albums and the ‘Live for Fire Fight Australia’ concert of 2020, Stephanie began booking more gigs until she was scouted for The Voice Australia:
“This year I felt I needed to challenge myself and go for something outside of my comfort zone. My journey so far has been so amazing and taught me so much about myself that I didn’t know. Adam Lambert, my coach, taught me about the industry and how to stay true to yourself. He was the most supportive coach I’ve had on and off camera, and the experience taught me a lot of confidence”.
As for her aspirations, Stephanie is set on performing and encourages other budding artists to follow their passions:
“There is no plan B – this is all I want to do quite literally. Try everything and never say no to opportunities. At the end of the day, no one will believe in yourself as much as you do. I’ve had so many doors closed in my face but if you want your dream just fight for it”.
You’ll have the chance to hear Stephanie’s rising talent on November 1st when she releases her new double single on all streaming platforms called ‘Through the Emotions’ with two very different style of songs including the funk dance track called “MAKE SOME NOISE” and a heartfelt soul ballad called “Something New to Say”: Her music can be found on all social media @sungbysteph.
