All Smiles at Hills Bulls All Abilities Team
With the sports season in full swing, it is heartwarming to see more inclusiveness in varied sports. Among them is the Hills Bulls All Abilities team, which is quietly making its mark in the community as it moves into its third season.
All Abilities team coach Andrew Odell said that seeing the smiles makes it very rewarding for everyone.
“This is a great program that the club has started,” Andrew said. “Seeing the smiles on the players faces when they are running around with their friends, playing games or scoring a try brings great enjoyment to all of those who are involved. The club and its supporters have been so welcoming to the team and when we play at Crestwood Oval, they all love cheering the team on.”
Hills Bulls All Abilities team manager Keirilee Odell said they are pleased with the growth in numbers since their first season. The program is open for both male and female players.
“The Hills Bulls All Abilities team is for players with Intellectual disability, autism, sensory disorders and other disabilities” Keirilee said. “It’s an inclusive environment where all are welcome. Their ages range from five up to adults, and the youngest player they have signed up was five.
“In the first year, we had 10 registered players and last year we had 13. We are looking forward to this year as many of our players from last year are returning to play another season.”
The All Abilities team train on Wednesdays from 6-7pm at Crestwood Oval, Baulkham Hills, learning new skills through fun interactive games.
“Our team plays one to two games or gala days a month,” Keirilee said. “They play touch football against other Hills Bulls teams, local club teams and Try Time (All Abilities) teams across Sydney.
“The Hills Bulls is a family-friendly club that have been extremely supportive in setting up an All Abilities team.
“It’s a great opportunity for our players to come together and play the game they love. Each registered player receives a training shirt, shorts, socks and players jersey. “
Keirilee said All Abilities is an inclusive program that focuses on fun, making new friends, learning new skills and playing rugby league.
“The club has a dedicated group of coaches and trainers who work with the team to ensure that everyone has fun, has a turn, learns new skills and enjoys themselves,” she said.
“The team also provides opportunity for parents of players to meet up and socialise.” For registration, contact Rick at [email protected].
