Sensory Garden at Balcombe Heights Estate
Balcombe Heights Estate is abuzz with excitement as the long-awaited Community Sensory Garden is now in place. This extraordinary project, designed to be a space of inclusion, connection, and serenity, is now open for everyone to enjoy.
The Community Sensory Garden was officially opened on 10 November 2024 by The Honourable Peter Primrose MLC and Dr Michelle Byrne, Mayor of The Hills Shire, and brought together community members, local leaders, and supporters who played a vital role in bringing this vision to life.
The Community Sensory Garden was made possible with funding from the NSW State Government, Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program, the hard work and dedication of the Hills Shire Council C355 Volunteer Committee, Hills Community Aid and the Hills Shire Council.
The garden offers something for everyone. Winding paths meander through the garden for people of all abilities to explore, with relaxing places to sit and ponder. There are plants of different textures, sights and smells and a grass area for meditation and wellbeing.
Mici Beer, Executive Office of Hills Community Aid said ‘The garden reflects our core values, Inclusion, Support, Respect, and Trust. Community lies at the heart of everything we do, and this garden offers a place where people can come together, feel a sense of belonging, and build meaningful connections.
Our commitment to inclusion is reflected in every part of this garden, welcoming people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. It’s a place to engage the senses and find joy in nature. Our focus on support is evident here too, as we’ve created an environment that nurtures wellbeing, offering an uplifting and caring space for everyone.
Feedback from community members who have visited the garden includes: “The garden looks great & really adds to the Estate. Well done! A place for contemplation for all members of the community has now been realised. Lovely to see such a beautiful and peaceful spot. Can’t wait to see it grow and mature”.
The Community Sensory Garden is located at Balcombe Heights Estate, 92 Seven Hills Road (Learning in The Hills Turner Building 4), Baulkham Hills, NSW 2153. Parking is available at the skate park and the garden is a short walk past the dog park. A Space to Explore, Relax, and Connect with Nature!
