Self-Collect Cervical Screening. A Simple, Life Saving Test.
Every year in Australia, around 900 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer, and approximately 250 die from it.
Fortunately, it is one of the most preventable cancers, but too many Australians are still missing out on routine screening.
Since July 2022, all eligible women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 74 can self-collect their cervical screening sample. It checks for HPV, a virus known to cause 99% of all cervical cancers and if picked up early, can be monitored and eradicated before it turns into cancer.
“Self-collection is a game-changer,” says local GP, Dr Linda Saad from Norwest Central Healthcare. “We’ve had so many patients come forward, some for the first time in years, who didn’t realise they had the option to test themselves. It’s simple, saves lives and its only needed once every 5 years if the result is normal.”
Take Control of Your Health
If it’s been more than five years since your last cervical screen, or you’ve never had one, now is the time to act.
“With the option to self-collect under the guidance of your GP, there is no reason to delay this important test,” says Dr Linda. “Early detection is the key to prevention.”
Speak to your GP today and ask about selfcollect cervical screening. Let’s make cervical cancer a thing of the past, one test at a time.
