Police Encourage Residents to download Free Emergency App
The Emergency+ app is a free app developed by Australia’s emergency services and their Government and industry partners.
Emergencies can happen in places that are difficult for you to describe – on an unmarked stretch of beach, bush track, or unfamiliar road, or outside a crowded sports stadium.
When you need to report an emergency in hard-to-find locations, the Emergency Plus App gives you the option to tell emergency services your location, either in the form of your closest street address, your GPS coordinates or your what3words address.
We encourage everyone to download the free Emergency Plus App which provides the GPS coordinates of their location as well as what3words.
The what3words is a system that has given every 3m square in the world a unique three word identifier. The what3words functionality contained within the app is a quick and simple way to communicate your precise location.
Unlike street addresses, what3words addresses work offline, so it can be used in remote areas with poor data connection and are as accurate as GPS coordinates.
