P1 Holder, 17, Intercepted on New year’s Day
At approximately 3:00 AM on Wednesday, 1 January 2025, The Hills Police observed a silver Toyota Aurion travelling on Old Northern Road, with a rear-seat passenger not properly wearing a seatbelt.
Upon intercepting the vehicle, further checks on the driver revealed they were a 17-year-old P1 licence holder. There were three passengers in the vehicle, all under 18 years old.
The driver was issued the following infringement notices:
- Drive with 1 passenger seatbelt/restraint not properly adjusted/fastened.
- P1 driver under 25 years old drive between 11pm and 5am with more than 1 passenger under 21 years.
- Not comply with P1 licence condition not display P plates.
- Drive motor vehicle not carry licence.
The total infringement amount was $1548, with double demerit points in effect, resulting in 11 demerit points. Consequently, the RMS will suspend the driver’s licence.
