Exciting Opportunities for New Rugby League Referees in the Hills and Hawkesbury Districts
If you ever thought of blowing the whistle and officiating at junior or senior rugby league matches, now is the best time to put your hand up.
The Parramatta District Rugby League Referees Association is welcoming new referees, saying it’s a wonderful opportunity for girls and boys to start a career in officiating and make some extra pocket money.
The PDRLRA provides trained, accredited referees for matches across the Parramatta Junior League, including the Hills District and The Hawkesbury.
According to the association’s Director Of Officiating, Ethan Murray, anyone from 13 years upwards can join, with specialised training and world-class facilities backing them. He said the association offers some of the best match payments in the area, and that they are always working to improve them.
“We welcome everyone aged 13 and up – whether you’re looking for extra income, fitness, social connections, or aiming to build a career and one day referee in the NRL,” Murray told the Hills To Hawkesbury Community News. “Our referees range in age from 13 to 65 years, and they all love what they do.
“With referee retention at its highest in years, we are investing heavily in the development and success of our team. As the Parramatta Junior League continues to grow, we are urgently seeking more referees to join us.”
The new referees will train once a week and their progress will be monitored regularly to ensure they are ready for on-field officiating.
Murray said it is free to join, with the workshop fully covered and all required gear for training and officiating provided at no charge, thanks to the support of the Parramatta Junior League and Parramatta Leagues Club.
“We train at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence, a state-of-the-art venue that offers top-tier facilities for our referees,” he said. “Our referees are supported by a team of experienced coaches, from grassroots mentors to current and former NRL referees who give back their time to help you succeed.
“We pride ourselves on fostering a welcoming and inclusive culture where referees thrive both on and off the field, and you won’t be out there alone.
“We provide dedicated buddies or coaches to support you every step of the way – we treat our referees like family. We look forward to welcoming new referees into our team and supporting them on their journey.”
