Male, 74, Arrested in South Maroota Due to Unregistered Firearms
On the evening of November 9, 2024, The Hills Shire Police responded to an incident in South Maroota involving a 74-year-old male resident.
The individual was alleged to have fired a shotgun in his backyard, causing distress to nearby residents.
Upon arrival, Police secured the area and conducted a thorough investigation. The 74-year-old (who is not a firearms licence holder) was allegedly found in possession of multiple unregistered firearms and ammunition. Additionally, prohibited drugs were discovered on the premises.
The 74-year-old male was arrested and taken to Castle Hill police station. He faces multiple charges, including unauthorized possession and use of firearms, possession of unregistered firearms, failure to safely store firearms, possession of ammunition without a license, and possession and supply of prohibited drugs.
He was given strict bail to attend Parramatta Local Court next month.
The Police would like to assure the community that the situation was handled promptly and safely.
“We thank the community for their cooperation and encourage anyone with additional information, particularly about unregistered firearms, to come forward, as per the previous post about the NSW Firearms Amnesty, please surrender all unregistered firearms,” the Police said.
