Local Coronation Family Picnic

Local Coronation Family Picnic

On 6 May 2023, around 1000 members of the local community came together to celebrate the King’s Coronation with a family picnic at Fagan Park, Galston.

This was a day beyond politics, and was instead a celebration of country, community, service and leadership.

The day was focused on fun for all ages. The event was supported by over 20 community and school groups who provided music, games and activities for kids, and various other stalls.

The cardboard cut-out of the King and Queen was a definite hit, as were the crowns and flags that were available.

The attendees heard speeches from Julian Leeser MP, Philip Ruddock MP, Mark Hodges MP, and Clr Mitchell Blue. Importantly, each contributing organisation also spoke to the attendees about the important community work being done by their organisation and the opportunities to get involved.

Hundreds of attendees left messages of congratulations for the King, which will be passed on to the Governor-General and then the Palace.

The event was hosted by Julian Leeser, Federal Member for Berowra. Regarding the event, Julian said:
“The local Coronation Family Picnic was a wonderful opportunity to bring together around 1,000 people from across the community. The families and community organisations who joined us helped to make the event a deeply enjoyable afternoon.

In particular, I am grateful to the many community organisations who joined us to run stalls, activities, and food trucks.

We have one of the best local communities in the country. It was a pleasure to share this historic occasion with so many of them.”
