LIFE-SAVING GRANTS OPEN TO LOCAL SPORTS CLUBS

Half a million dollars in funding is available to Hawkesbury sports clubs as part of the NSW Government’s Local Sport Defibrillator Grant Programme.

Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet said the funding was announced as part of Round 3 of the NSW Government’s four-year, $4 million program.

“Sport is a vital part of the Hawkesbury community,” Mr Perrottet said.

“The Local Sport Defibrillators Grant Programme helps sports organisations to purchase Automated External Defibrillators (AED) which can be used to respond to cardiac emergencies.

“It’s critical that our local sport and recreation facilities are equipped with this life-saving equipment and I urge local sports organisations to apply for funding in the current round.”

Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres said the programme was about ensuring clubs were equipped to respond to lifethreating emergencies.

“Early access to a defibrillator can significantly increase a person’s chances of survival in the event of a cardiac arrest,” Mr Ayres said.

“That’s why the NSW Government is supporting NSW sporting organisations with $500,000 in grants towards the purchase of this life-saving equipment.”

Eligible sports clubs and organisations can receive between $1250 and $1900 in funds towards the cost of a defibrillator.

Since the commencement of the programme in 2017, the NSW Government has committed to provide $985,000 to sport and recreation facilities to assist with the purchase of 780 defibrillators.

Applications close 6 May 2019. Sport clubs are encouraged to apply as soon as possible for the best chance of securing a grant.
