HONOUR BOARD AT CASTLE HILL PUBLIC
After 20 years of being missing in action, an Honour Board naming former students who served in WW 1 will stand pride of place in Castle Hill Public School.
The Board containing 65 names, including nine who never returned, was unveiled by Ron Smith, former student, veteran and Director with Castle Hill RSL during a special Remembrance Day Service at the School on Thursday (this morning)
He was a student at Castle Hill Public School as a five-year-old in 1936 and can remember the old board in the Year 3 classroom.
“I was so disappointed when the board disappeared,” he said.
The disappearance occurred when the school moved from the old site on Old Northern Rd to the new school in 20 years ago.
Also there for the unveiling was the school’s oldest former student 100 year old Beryl Cater (nee Stephens).
She was actually Christened in St Paul’s Church Castle Hill, the day that the Armistice was signed on November 11 1918.
Nearly 1000 students all wearing hand made red poppies attended the Remembrance service.
Funding for the replacement Honour Board came from Federal Mitchell MP Alex Hawke.
New Honour Boards were also unveiled at Hills Shire Council.
