Hills Shire Council: Janpieter Road is now properly linked

This road construction will help connect the upcoming $15 million Indoor Recreation Complex at the former private equestrian area.

The Janpieter Road in Marayla and Gables are now connected, according to Dr Peter Gangemi, Mayor of the Hills Shire, on 19 July 2023.

“The connected Janpieter Road has been keenly sought after by numerous local residents and will also give our emergency services greater access to properties in Maraylya and Gables,” the Mayor said.

According to the Hills Shire Council, road construction was initiated to form the missing section of Janpieter Road. It was ahead of schedule as the construction was expected to be finished by August 2023.

“Whilst the road has existed on paper for many years, this section has remained unformed,” per the Council.

This finished road project will pave the way for the envisioned Indoor Recreation Complex at Box Hill, the Mayor revealed on November 2022. The Hills Shire Council received $15.5 million in funding from the NSW Government, which came from the $5 billion investment program by WestInvest.

The infrastructure project funding is valued at $15 million, which will transform the former equestrian area called Horseworld into a recreation centre. According to the NSW Government, there will be two possible versions of the upcoming complex:

      • a complex composed of five indoor and up to 12 outdoor multifunction courts
      • two full-sized playing fields with associated lighting, fencing, and amenities

The remaining $500,000 will be allocated to the “Upgrading of Flood Warning Infrastructure.” This allocation aims to “promote community safety and improve resilience to potential future flood events.”

Houghton & Meredith Pty. Ltd was the project’s contractor and conducted earthworks, drainage, and road pavement construction.
