Hills Say No to DV
A moving rose ceremony to remember all the women, children and men killed as a result of domestic violence will be held at Castle Hill RSL on Friday, 29th November starting at 10am.
The annual event is hosted by the Hills Domestic Violence Prevention Network with organisers saying the number of roses needed increases almost daily.
The rose ceremony is a poignant reminder that behind every statistic there is a person and shattered family and friends..
Last week the total for the year was 75, the most in the ceremony’s five year history.
Aileen Mountifield from the Lisa Harnum Foundation said: “it’s very sad the number of people who have lost their life as a result of domestic violence already this year.
“Raising the issue of domestic violence is so important. DV is no respecter of post codes.
“This year, our guest speakers are Rob and Deb Sanasi. Their story is quite unique in that Rob was a perpetrator, mainly in coercive control type of behaviour.
“He had a moment, quite literally, where he said “she isn’t the problem, It’s me. “He went on to have lengthy counselling and today they remain happily married.”
Aileen said the couple’s testimony was very powerful and quite unique.
