Residents of Kenthurst and nearby areas are advised that a Hazard Reduction Burn by the NSW Rural Fire Service is ongoing near Ivy Place on Kenthurst today, 29 August, until tomorrow, 30 August.

According to the Kenthurst Rural Fire Service, the burn will cover an area of approximately 32 hectares and is likely to continue Thursday evening, with crews positioned on site late into the night and assisted by patrols. A helicopter will also be helping.

On Thursday, a reduced speed limit will be placed on Kenthurst Road, Jones Road, Ivy Place, Sildor Circuit, Lyrebird Circuit, Bowerbird Circuit, Sandpiper Place, Sorbello Place & Ellendale Road.

The Kenthurst RFS shares the following steps on what to do during the Hazard Burn:

  • Please be patient, and give way to emergency vehicles and personnel throughout the day and night.
  • If driving, slow down, keep windows up, and turn on your headlights.
  • As the burn will generate smoke, embers, and heat, please consider the following precautions:
  • Keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke from entering your home.
  • Store outdoor furniture under cover to protect against ember burns.
  • Retract pool covers to prevent ember damage.
  • Remove washing from clotheslines.
  • Ensure pets have a safe and protected area.
  • If you have asthma or a respiratory condition, limit outdoor activities. If smoke levels are high, and shortness of breath or coughing occurs, take your reliever medication or seek medical advice.
