Last week I had the opportunity to paddle alongside the dedicated members of the Hawkesbury River Dragons at Parsley Bay in Brooklyn.

The experience is one of the reasons why the Berowra Electorate is the best place in the world. It is home to an abundance of grassroots clubs and sporting organisations that provide incredible community spirit and camaraderie that keep us as a truly close-knit community.

Dragon boating is also more than just a sport—it fosters physical fitness, mental wellbeing, teamwork, and a vibrant community spirit that enriches us all.

That’s why I was also proud to announce to the Hawkesbury River Dragons that an elected Coalition Government will commit $36,000 to upgrading their storage facilities. Established in 2011, the club has quickly grown to over 65 active members, with even more community interest on the horizon. This rapid growth has placed considerable strain on existing storage facilities, highlighting an urgent need for upgrades.

The planned improvements will significantly expand the club’s storage capacity, allowing it to acquire new equipment and welcome additional members.

This investment is more than just infrastructure; it’s a commitment to the viability of organisations like the Hawkesbury River Dragons – the health, happiness, and connectivity of our community.

Stefanie Haug, President of the Hawkesbury River Dragons, echoed this sentiment, emphasising how critical this funding is to the club’s future growth and its capacity support a growing membership base. It’s deeply rewarding to see first-hand the positive impact such grassroots organisations have and supporting them remains a key priority for myself and the Coalition.

Continuing to invest in and support our local clubs, like the Hawkesbury River Dragons, isn’t just about promoting sport; it’s about building stronger communities. As your Federal Member for Berowra, I remain committed to ensuring that our neighbourhoods have the resources they need to grow and maintain the vibrant community spirit that makes our area so special.
