Run by YMCA on behalf of Hawkesbury Council, Hawkesbury Oasis is a community hub offering a range of programs and activities to keep everyone fit and healthy.
For us the biggest attraction was the large indoor lagoon area for families with a beach type entry with water sprays as well as fountains across the lagoon. The water slide attached to the lagoon also provided plenty of entertainment.
The indoor aquatic facilities also include a 25m heated pool. Spa sauna and steam room whilst outdoors there is a heated 50m pool for those wanting to swim laps. Hawkesbury Oasis runs a range of aquatic programs for all ages and abilities including swimming lessons, squad training, aqua aerobics as well as recreation and lap swimming.
A gym and group fitness studio is also on site as well as a creche offering a chance for parents to participate in exercise sessions whilst their children enjoy a variety of supervised activities including craft and games.
The café is hard to resist after a swim and offers a range of food from hot chips and hot dogs through to sandwiches and cakes as well as ice creams and milkshakes. There is plenty of seating around the café as well as outside on the grassed area.
For those looking for a playground after a swim or for a picnic lunch, Church Street Reserve is adjacent to the Hawkesbury Oasis Centre and provides a wonderful all abilities playground with features of a flying fox, swing set, merry go round, climbing equipment.
Like all YMCA centres across NSW, Hawkesbury Oasis aims to build strong connections with the local community inorder to empower people particularly the youth by creating safe spaces and creating opportunities for people to participate in activities and engage with others. Hawkesbury Oasis on top of its programs at the centre also runs school holiday programs, delivers regular safety talks at local schools and participates in outreach programs at local events.
Having visited Hawkesbury Oasis, it is easy to see why Hawkesbury Oasis won the Most Outstanding Fitness Services Award at the 2022 Hawkesbury Local Business Awards in recognition of the centre’s ongoing commitment and service to the Hawkesbury.
In 2023 as part of the WestInvest program, the NSW Government awarded $6.7 million to Hawkesbury Council for the upgrade and improvement of Hawkesbury Oasis. New amenities planned include a Children’s splash park, new shallow depth program pool including accessibility ramp and hydrotherapy, extended fitness room with a climbing wall facility, new covered deck to connect change rooms and the outdoor café that operates in summer, touch pads on the 50m pool, additional car parking and an outdoor gym.
We loved our visit to Hawkesbury Oasis and we definitely can’t wait to see the upgrades of the centre complete and even more people enjoying everything the centre has to offer.
