Hawkesbury Clr Tom Aczel Has Resigned
Two months after being elected to Hawkesbury Council, first time councillor Dr Tom Aczel has resigned.
Hawkesbury City Council announced today (Thursday 5th December) that it had received the resignation of Tom Aczel as a Councillor of Hawkesbury City Council, effective immediately.
Tom Aczel was elected to the role of Councillor of Hawkesbury City Council on 3 October 2024. He made an Affirmation of Office at the first Council Meeting of the current term on 15 October 2024.
Dr Aczel Profession/Occupation worked in solo private practice in the Hawkesbury district for 36 years, from September 1987 to October 2023.
Appointed as Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) to Hawkesbury Hospital throughout this period (1987 to 2023). He is still involved in teaching Notre Dame University medical students.
He was Head of Department of Surgery, Hawkesbury Hospital, from 1994 to 2022.
Council has written to the NSW Electoral Commission advising of the resignation of Dr Aczel and requested the Electoral Commission to commence the Countback Election process for filling the vacant councillor role. A Countback Election relies on votes already cast, preventing the need for a by-election.
Dr Aczel secured the 12th position on Hawkesbury council at the 59th count of preferences.
