Former Socceroo Van Egmond Takes Charge at Hills United
Former Socceroo Gary van Egmond has taken over as coach of the Hills United FC men’s first grade in what should be a major boost to the club’s hopes in the NSW NPL League One championship.
The 60-year-old van Egmond has turned around the club’s losing streak into two successive wins over Bonnyrigg White Eagles and Northern Tigers. However, the highly-experienced player and coach has a big task on his hands for the rest of the 2025 season because the Hills United lie 12th on the ladder after 10 defeats.
The club said it was, “thrilled to announce the renown and talented Gary Van Egmond has joined our club as head coach for our NPL first grade men’s squad.”
“An honour for the experience, guidance and mentorship Gary brings to guide our players & club for success,” Hills United said.
“Gary, with his impressive playing & coaching history, will bring a knowledgeable hands-on approach and we look forward to success for the remainder of the Football NSW League’s 25th season.
BIANCA GALAYINI HITS CENTURY MARK
Meanwhile, attacker Bianca Galayini is the first Hills United woman player to reach the century mark and hasn’t missed a minute since their inception. Praised by her coach Alan Tasses for her dedication to the club, Galayini celebrated the milestone with a goal against South Coast Flames.
Galayini is one of the key contributors in the side who top the Football NSW League One Women’s competition. Last weekend, they hammered Inter Lions 7-0 to cement their lead at the top of the table. Hills United are on 37 points after 14 games with just one loss – to Central Coast Mariners. SD Raiders lie second on 31 points but have two games in hand.
