Further opportunities for The Shire

The Hills Shire Council has acquired a 25-acre property in Box Hill, a strategic outcome that will unlock future opportunities for The Sydney Hills.

In November, Council purchased ‘Horseworld’ (191 Maguires Road) – an equestrian facility set upon 25 acres in Box Hill, adjacent to the Gables and The Hills of Carmel housing developments.

The semi-rural property includes a detached single storey residential dwelling and an 7,500m2 indoor arena with seating for approximately 2,000 spectators.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said the property purchase was part of Council’s strategic land acquisition and will assist in meeting community needs well into the future.

“Box Hill is booming,” Mayor Byrne said.

“We expect another 30,000 residents to live within the Box Hill precinct by 2036. And as more people move into the area, we know that there will be more pressure on our local parks, community facilities, sporting grounds, local amenities and roads.

“Planning ahead, Council conducted an investigation into the opportunities this site would create for our community, including the re-use of the indoor stadium and use of the surrounding areas for more sporting fields.

“I am so proud to belong to a Council who continually looks for opportunities and plans ahead to support future growth within our Shire,” Mayor Byrne added.

Deputy Mayor of The Hills Shire, Councillor Robyn Preston said the property purchase was a fantastic opportunity for The Hills Shire community.

“The timing of the property coming to market was a golden moment for Council to secure land in a key strategic location that has been identified as important to realising the community’s vision for the future of the Box Hill precinct,” Deputy Mayor Preston said.

“The site will unlock opportunities and options for the creation of new community spaces, which is in line with the future strategic vision of The Hills Shire.”
