Fernadell Park Sports Precinct Construction Begins!
The much-anticipated Fernadell Park Sports Precinct is now under construction with works officially commencing on Monday, 9 June 2025.
This marks a major milestone for the project which will deliver a brand-new sporting precinct and community facility to serve the growing Pitt Town community for many years to come.
Doing the honours and turning the first piece of earth for the project at the official sod turning ceremony was Hawkesbury City Council Mayor Les Sheather, Councillor Peter Ryan and Councillor Mary Lyons-Buckett.
The Hon. Peter Primrose, who was unable to attend the sod turning ceremony, sent his well wishes for the start of the project.
“The $22.08 million Fernadell Park and Community Facility is great news for Pitt Town and the whole Hawkesbury Community. The new facilities will encourage healthy, outdoor activities at a special place already loved by locals and visitors,” Mr Primrose said.
Hawkesbury City Council Mayor Les Sheather shared the same sentiment while attending the official ceremony. The second stage of the project will include a multipurpose community centre, with additional announced funding from the Australian Government’s Thriving Suburbs Program.
“This is truly an exciting event for the Pitt Town community and for the Hawkesbury. As a long-standing member of the Hawkesbury Sports Council and with the Pitt Town Progress Association, this project has been of particular interest to me, and I am so pleased we have been able to secure funding with the support of our Federal Member, Susan Templeman, to make it a reality for the community.”
WEM Scape was awarded the construction tender in March and will deliver the Fernadell Park Sports Precinct development for Hawkesbury City Council. The community facility is awaiting development application approval before commencing the construction tender process. Weather permitting, the completion of the entire precinct is expected to be completed by 30 June 2027.
Once complete, Fernadell Park will provide the Pitt Town community and surrounds with much-needed passive and active recreation space. The works include:
- Integrated facilities for soccer and cricket along with crickets practice nets.
- Modified sports field/event space.
- New multi-purpose courts for netball and basketball.
- New amenities building with canteen, publicly accessible toilets and change room facilities suitable for female and male players.
- Kiosk/equipment storage facilities.
- Multi-age play area with shade sails for children.
- Outdoor gym facilities.
- Accessibility pathways connectivity throughout the precinct and natural areas.
- Fenced off-leash dog area.
- Ample off-street and on-grade parking space.
- Shelters with barbecue facilities and picnic areas.
