Selfless Acts in our Community

The decision of Courtney Cameron of the Dural Brigade of the Rural Fire Service to cut her hair to raise money in support of her friend and fellow RFS member Tim Maffey is a wonderful demonstration of the incredible sense of community in Berowra. I was pleased to support her efforts over the weekend and witness the fine work of Scissor and Comb Connection, Galston. You can donate to the cause at https://nsw.cancercouncilfundraising.org.au/ courtneycameron.

Last month, I celebrated Christmas in July with the Rural Fire Service and the local Sackville North community. I will join around 100 local residents for the Arcadian Community Dinner this weekend.

It was an honour to speak to the congregations of Saint Luke’s Anglican Church at Hornsby Heights, the Turramurra Gurudwara, the Iman Hassan Centre at Annangrove and the Glenorie Mission Church in Berowra in recent weeks and to serve dinner at the Hornsby Cathedral Catholic Parish community dinner. These occasions provided a reminder of the enduring values of faith, service and humility that are so prevalent in our community.

Telecommunications and the NBN

A new mobile phone tower serving Sackville North and the surrounding suburbs was funded through the Federal Government’s Mobile Black Spot Program. In the last Parliamentary session I asked the Minister for Urban Infrastructure when local residents could expect the tower to be delivered. He advised construction is expected to commence later this year. Once complete, this tower will deliver better mobile coverage and improved safety for local residents.

The Minister for Communications, Senator the Hon Mitch Fifield, inspected progress on the roll out of the NBN in Cherrybrook last month. 20 per cent of homes in our electorate are currently ready for service and work is well underway to have the rest of Berowra connected by the end of 2020.

I received a fantastic response to our first community forum on the National Broadband Network (NBN) and Telstra last month. I will host a second forum at the Dural Country Club on 23 August 2017 from 6-8pm. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and hear directly from representatives from these organisations. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to my office on 9980 1822.
