Dural Cub-Scout Activities

Dural scouts

Dural cubs have been able to enjoy many exciting Scout activities recently. They took part in several short and long-distance hikes, learning compass, mapping and orienteering skills, challenging themselves over steep ascents and descents in National Parks, enjoying nature and finishing with a great sense of accomplishment.

The Parramatta Ramble was a Region event, with 152 Cub Scouts and 48 Leaders and parents taking part.

Cubs enjoyed a fun day out walking around Parramatta, using a map, following instructions, looking for clues, answering questions, and finding out about the local history. Cub Scouts who completed the event earned a merit award.

Indoor Rock climbing was a great way for Cubs and Scouts alike to have fun while building confidence and gaining skills in problem-solving.

Everyone experienced various climbing routes and fitness levels and the friendly staff at The Edge Rock Climbing Centre were on standby to help them learn new skills.

Over several nights, cubs learned bushcraft living skills such as outdoor cooking, building their own shelter and putting together a survival kit, a first aid kit, tying bandages and more.

They visited Mid Dural RFS station and learned about many of the fire-safety aspects during a bush fire and other fire emergencies. Cubs got to see equipment on a fire engine, have a practice with the hoses, discussed evacuation during a fire, the importance of dialling 000 and much more.

The visit also taught them how important it is to be part of a community and appreciate the firefighters who help keep everyone safe.
