Clubs to Merge
Castle Hill Bowling Club and CHRG (Castle Hill RSL Group) are set to amalgamate following an unanimous vote of CHRG members at the Special General Meeting held on Monday, 17th September.
The vote followed the unanimous approval of Castle Hill Bowling Club members at a Special General Meeting held a week earlier.
Talks have been progressing since March 2021 following a call for expressions of interest in an amalgamation.
Noel Benson, Chairman of Castle Hill Bowling Club, said the amalgamation was not only good for both clubs but also the community.
Final approval is being sought from the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority, which is expected later this year. John Payne, President of CHRG said it was an exciting decision.
“CHRG is a leading provider of hospitality and sport services and facilities, and we are very excited to be welcoming CHBC to the CHRG family of venues. Over the years, we have enjoyed a strong relationship as neighbours and friends, and we look forward to building on this to support our membership and the sport,” he said.
CHRG has committed to developing CHBC as a Bowling Centre of Excellence to support and promote the benefits of the sport throughout its membership and beyond.
David O’Neil, Group CEO of CHRG, said: “We look forward to the enhancement of bowling facilities, which includes a synthetic green, with allweather roofing and competition standard lighting, along with a new clubhouse,”
Noel Benson said “Having been in operation for the past 62 years, Castle Hill Bowling Club’s members were keen to ensure the sport of bowls would continue to be available to people living in the Hills area.
“This amalgamation opportunity, including the new facilities that will be created, will ensure the legacy of past and current members lives on well into the future. We’re delighted for what this amalgamation offers our members and the wider community.”
The club has 180 active bowler who participate in several Bowls NSW competitions and interclub tournaments throughout the year, with the ability to play organised games at the club on six days a week. Free coaching is available for anyone interested in trying the sport out.
Bowling Club member Paul Bryan said: “Lawn Bowls is a great sport for the young and young at heart – providing a wonderful opportunity for like-minded people to participate in something low-impact, fun and relaxed, while also learning the technical skills of the game.”
It is expected that CHRG will finalise the amalgamation with CHBC in early 2023.
